Best of Boot Camp

Ann Arbor SPARK Honored Entrepreneur Boot Camp Participants at Celebration

Ann Arbor SPARK honored participants at the Entrepreneur Boot Camp Celebration held Tuesday at SPARK Central. The evening highlighted the Best of Boot Camp award winner, Greg Guidice of RazorThreat, and keynote speaker, Lisa Vallee-Smith of Airfoil Public Relations. The ninth Entrepreneur Camp, an intensive two-day business planning and preparation program, was held on November 2 and 3.

Guidice was awarded an initial engagement with the Business Accelerator valued at $5,000. RazorThreat is an enterprise network security company whose software aggregates and correlates threat data from multiple network security applications and applies corporate communication policies to remediate the threat.

“Boot Camp is an invaluable process for start-ups,” said Guidice. “It provided us with the discipline and practice needed to further advance our businesses and learn how to appeal to investors. I am honored to be selected among many fascinating companies and this only motivates me to work harder to accomplish my goals; I highly recommend all startups to participate in this program.”

“The teams were judged on the following metrics: Well-defined target market, staging an appropriate management team and business model,” noted Chuck Salley, Entrepreneur Boot Camp drill instructor. “We thank the many volunteers and mentors who helped guide these teams to achieve the next milestone on their road to success.”

Other successful teams participating in Boot Camp were 6hippo, Advanced Technology of Michigan, Biotectix, Blaze Biomedical Devices, GeneVivo, InflaRx, Smart Antenna and The Bravest.

Lisa Vallee-Smith, CEO and co-founder of Airfoil Public Relations, recalled her experiences as a boot camper in 2001 in her keynote address. Vallee-Smith shared the constructive criticisms she received at Boot Camp that have stayed with her as her once start-up has grown into a successful and profitable firm.

Ann Arbor SPARK’s Entrepreneur Boot Camp is an intensive business planning and preparation event designed to help early stage technology businesses increase their chances of attracting additional funding, finding resources and achieving success.

The next Entrepreneur Boot Camp will be held April 26 & 27, 2007; registration deadline for the 2007 Boot Camp is April 9.

TESTIMONIALS

“RazorThreat's Threat Analysis Console (TAC) provides our customers with a second order analysis of the information they are receiving from their existing security equipment. This second order analysis enables them to find threats that have gotten through their existing security equipment, thus increasing the ROI of that equipment but more importantly making their environment more secure.”
